If you want to learn how to do emo makeup, then you have come to the right place. How do so many scene queens like Kiki Kannibal and Hanna Beth get their make up to look so perfect, and just the right amount of emo? Learn how to look like your favorite scene queens right here by learning how to do emo makeup, just like them! The right techniques will help you create the perfect mood for your makeup!

First, get together your materials! For an emo look, you will need:

  • Primer
  • Foundation
  • Eyeliner
  • Eyeshadow
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick

Here are some fun and easy steps to help you get the emo look and teach you how to do emo makeup:

  1. After your moisturizer, apply foundation or powder to give yourself the pale emo look. Don’t use too much blush because then you will look like a prep or a clown, that’s not emo!!!!
  2. The Emo eyeliner is key in learning how to do emo makeup. Experiment with colors to give yourself a variety of looks! You can use powder, cream, or a stick. Just make sure it goes on smooth and into a thick line.  Let the eyeliner dry before applying eyeshadow so that it doesn’t smudge!
  3. What I think is most important is the lower lid. Make sure the lower lid is blended and smudged well, with a dark color creating a bold and sad, emotional look.
  4. Put on the eyeshadow, and then use a makeup brush to blend the eyeliner and the eyeshadow perfectly! This will definitely help in getting the emo look!
  5. Mascara. I like to do mine now so that I can work the liner into it later on. I like to apply mascara first from the bottom of the upper lashes at the base and then work on the top to plump the up. As for the bottom lashes just stick some on them, they ‘re a bugger to define. You ‘ll probably get a little here and there around your eyes, I like to use a Q-Tip with a bit of moistureizer on the tip to remove it after its dried.

Here are some tips for your Lips and Eyes that will help you learn how to do emo make-up! It’s super easy!

Eyes: Find an old credit card or something else straight.
Place the card in line with the base of your eye lashes (same for uppers and lowers) and using an eyeliner pencil draw a straight line.
Apply liquid eye liner in the same way on top, for a smoother look.
When the eye liner has dried, apply a healthy amount of black eye shadow to your eye lids.
Then, using a dark red eye shadow, create a shadow effect by applying a thin amount all round your eyes.
Apply a small amount of black eye shadow to your eyelashes before applying mascara.

Lips: Then apply some dark red liquid lipstick to your lips.

More awesome tips:

  • Practice applying makeup beforehand to keep your hand as steady as possible.
  • You may wish to use a flat surface to rest your hand on in order to get the smoothest eyeliner application.
  • If you have trouble thickening your eyeliner well try using a small amount of black eyeshadow on an eyeliner brush to give a smoky effect.
  • Apply makeup in a well lit environment so that you can see lines more clearly.
  • Don’t use foundation in any shade more than two shades lighter than your own. This won’t make you look pale but it may make you look washed out under harsher lights.
  • If you have oily skin or sweat easily use a primer beneath your eye colour to prevent it running.
  • Keep facial wipes and a small makeup kit with you in case you need to reapply eyeliner during the day.
  • Some great online stores that sell makeup aimed towards subcultures include Manic Panic and Hot-Topic.
  • You can also wear the eyeshadow on the bottom of your lashes. But as close to the actual lash as possible.
  • If eyeliner doesn’t work, try doing eyeshadow. It works just as well as eye liner. Just a little easier.

The best advice that can be given on how to do emo makeup, would to BE CREATIVE and mix bold colors with black!
